People come to Lily's counter for the first coffee of the day, the heat off the ovens, and the smell of a cinnamon bun that has just left the rack, and they stay to talk. Shady Grove Oliver wrote this series for the Get Sleepy podcast, and each story spends a day or an evening in and around the shop.
The ten stories walk through the life of the place. There is a welcome to the bakery, an autumn morning with a classic treat in the oven, a family heirloom, and a cookie party thrown for the whole town. There are memories of days gone by, and a stranger who arrives without much explanation. A bad storm is on the way and has to be prepared for. Then comes a long-awaited grand opening, a look back at how the bakery began, and a fundraiser that brings a special friend along.
