When the narrator finally breaks free, he crosses a countryside gone silent and strange, its roads littered and its rivers choked with red weed. He meets an artilleryman with grand, half-mad plans for rebuilding human life underground, then pushes on alone toward London itself, a city left empty and overgrown, waiting for an answer no one expected. Along the way he has to reckon with what he has seen, and with what kind of man the invasion has made him.
This is science fiction with the bones of a survival story: an alien-invasion tale full of eerie landscapes, close calls, and quiet dread rather than constant action. It carries the same Victorian unease that made the original novel so unsettling, and it suits listeners who enjoy H. G. Wells, early science fiction, or any story where ordinary people face something they cannot fully understand.
